My friend Nick and I are thinking about ACB Radio. We have e-mailed some people and told them about the possibility of going satellite. What do you all think of ACB Radio going to satellite radio as well as Internet? Do you think that they should go for XM or Sirius?
jd i thought you werent a member anymore. sorry, just had to ask *smiles*
I think ACB Radio should be got rid of completely.
Well I don't think that ACB gets that much listenership in the first place (from what I hear) and if you ask me I think that most if not all of the stuff I have heard there sounds pretty much the same... all smoothish tracks (maybe somewhat rockish) played by some blind man/woman with a slow bland voice (or an annoying one) and well it's just not an interesting station to listen to... if I want to hear music I'll play some of my own or listen to FM Radio or another enternet station where I can depend on the format and things. The only other live programming that has really grabbed me is comedy (NHB is the only really good original one I have found, nhbradio.com </plugforsomeoneelsesstation>) and I do think it would be somewhat neat if they went to serious or something though I don't a) think it will happen and b) then it wouldn't be free.

acb radio is okay.
i listen to it on YRG but then again i guess it's not the best radio station. it would be good to go satelite though becaus it may get new listeners
I'm one of those crazy format kind of people, you know the general public? and I just don't like acbradio. It's a good idea in theory, but doesn't really stack up when it comes up to listenership and the like.
Well, I listen to some of the main menuarchives sometimes, just to pass time on the computer, but in my opinion, after Jonathan Mosen left it, it started going down hill. Hisblind line show was the heart and soul of acb radio, and I missed calling and talking about whatever was on my mind. I listened to the treasure trove for a long time, but then I started buying my old time radio shows on cds, and have a little over 100 mp3 cds of stuff, so I don't need to listen to treasure trove anymore.
wonderwoman
When there's such internet radio as Sky, Di, Soma and capital, the ACB tuner is one of the least used programs on my laptop.
I'm really not sure how much of an audience it would draw up on satellite. Would sighted folk get the impression it's a bunch of essoteric programs only blind people could appreciate, and I'm talking about Interactive here. I know people who love to listen to Interactive and a few of the broadcasters I consider good internet friends, but I honestly do not listen because most of their stuff is fairly safe and mainstream. But I think we have to consider how big the listener base is on the net and how much it would cost ACB to put the channel up on satellite.
Well, as a dj on Interactive, let me first say that I can understand why some of you guys don't like it. Interactive is mostly for older folks, we have a lot of programs that have good oldies shows if that's your thing, but we barely get 10 listeners per show now. If you factor in the cost of satellite time per hour and how much it would cost to get ACB Radio up there, I don't think that's gonna happen any time soon. I like working with them because it's a nice bunch of guys, and we do have some kind of schedule and there is actual thought that goes into it. We're not just a bunch of guys getting on there just so we can say whatever we want. Sure it's really tame and I do wish we could try to push more boundaries. On my show I play music that you won't hear on any other program, and when I did a show that had top 40 hits last summer, I got absolutely no response whatsoever. People complained that we weren't playing any modern stuff, and when I did, nobody said anything. Well, there you go. I don't think ACB Radio's 4 streams should be gotten rid of because obviously it has some kind oof audience, but our problem is we're not going after the sighted community. We've pretty much hit maximum dencity in the blind community, but sighted folks won't take a station run by a bunch of blind people seriously.
I agree with tunehead here. Besides, ACB radio does not bring anything unique in to the satellite radio relm. so I highly doubt xm or any other satellite radio provider would even give the station a second glance. XM already has something similar to the treasure trove so that wouldn't work either.
acb radio, is not all that great. so it should just stay like it is and let the people who do listen to it enjoy it.
I have a question. Why don’t you blind people go to some other main stream site where you can do your shows? The only value I can see concerning ACB radio is Main Menu. This is because it deals with blindness related topics. But for those who play music why don’t you go to a site where there are a lot of sited people on doing there radio? First by going to these blindness sites to play music, and what not you are segreting yourselves. If you want to become part of the general population then go to a main stream website. If I were to do a radio show, I would either create my own web site, or go to some main stream site to play music or some political talk show. Now I do think ACB radio has it’s place for the program Main Menu. This is because they talk about blindness related topics. Therefore a radio station for blind people in this case is appropriate. Anyhow, just my thoughts.
Yeah, I agree, I much prefer talk shows, the ole guys Herman Cain and Neil Boortz.
i agree with you Rachel i prefer talk shows too. i enjoy listening to Neil Boortz too. He makes the news interesting and i like his commentary and the information overload hour.
